We are First United, a 60-bed overnight shelter and daytime drop-in for hundreds of people experiencing homelessness and those with insecure housing.

We have been a sanctuary and beacon of hope in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver for over 100 years.

We really need donations of computers, no older than 5, preferably newer, desktop workstations.

The requested specs (geek alert!):
- Desktop Workstation - all in one or tower
- Ideal: core i3 -- i7 processors
- Acceptable: multicore processors maximum of 5yrs of age
- Memory 4--8 GB
- Hard Drive 500GB and up
- Widescreen displays if possible.

We can issue a charitable tax receipt for the estimated resale value (based on a typical Craigslist price)

If you have one (or more) to donate, please call or email Heidi Morgan!

First United's Vision
First United is a place of inclusivity and compassion, committed at its heart to social justice. We work to create a place in the world where the worth of each person is affirmed, a sense of belonging experienced, and spirituality nurtured and celebrated. Our work is to provide relief from the pain and struggle of homelessness, poverty and systemic injustice. We know that there are no easy answers, no simple solutions. A good life looks different for every person: it is not our role to judge or direct, we are here to help people find stability, possibility and joy.

We honour that we do our work on the unceded ancestral homelands of the Səl̓ílwətaʔ, Xʷməθkwəy̓əm, & Sḵwx̱wú7mesh peoples. We solemnly acknowledge the interconnected histories of colonization and systemic racism -- including the legacy of the Residential School Experience, in which the United Church of Canada bears responsibility -- that affect generations of Aboriginal and First Nations people living in this territory, including many members of the First United community. We also humbly honour and benefit from the wisdom and guidance of leaders and Elders from the Aboriginal and First Nations communities, and strive to continually learn and improve our way of being in the world.

Inspired by the Christian Gospel which nurtures, empowers and liberates, First United Church is an inner-city ministry of The United Church of Canada. Called by the Spirit to be part of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, this ministry
 Affirms the worth of individuals
 Empowers communities
 And works for social justice

Dignity Each member of the community is a unique gift of the Creator and, as such, is to be encountered with dignity.
Respect In our interactions with each other we will respect the unique stories we carry and the common humanity we share.
Trust In all that we do and say we will strive to engender a sense of trustworthiness and act in ways that express trust in others.
Justice We will endeavor to create right relations with each other in community and seek to advocate for just relations in the political and economic context in which our community finds itself.
Empower We will strive to empower those who live on the margins of power.
