Help My Neighbour Society is partnering with Lookout Society - who is running the modular housing for the former tent city residents and homeless of Whalley.
Earlier this year, Help My Neighbour Society was awarded the Summer Job Grant to hire two students in positions of Homeless Support Workers for the Whalley homeless. Since the homeless we served have now moved into modular housing, we were looking for efficient ways to adjust our support program to their new structures and opportunities.
Starting Tuesday July 17th, 2018, we will facilitate crafts and cooking/baking activities for the residents of one modular home. This will be a pilot project or "dry fit" for future planning to engage modular housing residents in fun and useful activities that can bridge them to full reintegration in society after homeless life.
After the summer job grant students complete their awarded work time at the end of August, 2018, Help My Neighbour Society will use volunteers to continue the activity services for modular housing residents. Since volunteer approval is a process involving applications, Criminal Record Checks and interviews, we are already inviting aspiring activity volunteers to contact us and join our waiting list.
We also invite stores, organizations and individuals from the community to donate crafts materials and kits/devices, as well as cooking/baking devices and supplies. Since space for storage is limited, any surplus of donations will be shared with the other homeless-supporting organizations in the area, like NighShift and SUM Place.
For donations, suggestions or to join our mission in helping our community's homeless reintegrate in the society, please feel free to reply to this email. Or find more contact info in the hidden area. For monetary donations so we can buy missing supplies, e-transfers can be sent to our email.
